The dark, desolate land of Antartica is a barren, cold and dreary place. The chill which rolls off the land and reaches you from the south is bone chilling and leaves you feeling extremely cold, no matter how many layers you have to ward off the cold . The wind howls loudly, constantly reminding you that you are lost and no further then a small speck compared to the vast open black void of space.
There is a legend among the natives of this land, a very dark, well-hidden legend. A legend which has been kept secret for, many many years. the legend shared by the natives goes as follows: In the far future, some 3000 years from now, a mining colony will set up a camp here for scientists to study the star patterns in the night sky and to do scientific observing in the area. The colony will find several large deposits of a very rare, special diamond, one which is a beautiful clear white, with a perfect hexagonal structure. The leaders of the colony will come up with a great plan to use this diamond to fuel the colony’s mining operations. They will convert the diamond into a liquid and then, feed the liquid into the mining machinery, which will use the liquid to dig up the ore for the mines. The native’s legend declares that a millennium after the initial mining, the last deposit will be completely dug out and the mining operations will close down. the camp also will close down.
A thousand years later, on a cold, stormy day, a car will come speeding down the rusted, icy road, bearing down on the entrance gate at the entrance to the colony. The car will then drift up to a stop. The driver, will get out and walk slowly up to the gate . The guard, on duty, will be freezing and will greet the man at the gate, very cold and tired from the heavy wind. The man will be a large, muscular man, wearing a heavy blue parker to keep off the wind. He will be scruffy and very unkempt. The guard will state his purpose for visiting the camp and will ask to go in. The visitor will say “I know you must see a lot of strange things in your line of work, but I am here to assure you I am not a figment of your imagination”, in a very soft, gentle voice, with a slight smile on his face. The guard will smile and open the sally port, allowing the newcomer to enter.....
